Real Madrid Star Becomes Ambassador For Sony Mobile

Sony Mobile has signed an exclusive partnership with Gareth Bale, which will see the Real Madrid and Wales star become an ambassador for the brand – specifically promoting the Xperia Z3 series.

As part of the deal, the footballer - who became the richest footballer in the world in his £85m move to the Bernabeu in 2013 - will road test the battery life, camera and fitness capabilities of the Xperia Z3 series and Lifelog application., which also features a two-day battery life under “Stamina Mode”.

According to Sony, more "extraordinary experiences" with Bale will follow, though it hasn’t said what. According to a spokeswoman, Bale has signed up with Sony for a year.

Sony Mobile's marketing director, Catherine Cherry, said: "Fitness is a key passion point for our customers and working with such an established athlete means that we can reward them like never before."

The deal marks a difficult time for Sony in the smartphone market. While the company’s Xperia Z3 line has been praised by reviewers, that has not translated into profits.

The company is also offering 11 fans the chance to meet and train with Bale in Madrid in May by purchasing an Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact or Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

The competition started on 1st March and will run until the end of the month before the winners are announced at the beginning of next month via a prize draw.
