Defending champions, Etisalat FC, proved that they are still the best when they defeated MTN 3-0 and emerged winner of the 2014 Nigeria Telecommunications Games. The much anticipated final held on Sunday, September 7th at the Legacy Pitch, Lagos National Stadium.

Although MTN FC put up a good fight, that was not enough to compete with Etisalat FC, who left good behind to become the better team of the tournament.

The Etisalat FC players put up a brilliant performance from the start of the match, getting in their first goal early in the first half by attacker Anthony Brosu. They cemented their leadership with a second goal by David Ore in the second half and an own goal by MTN’s Taofeek Badmus sealed their victory.

Speaking at the end of the match, Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher said, “It was a great match with a fantastic show of sportsmanship from both teams.  There just had to be one winner and clearly the better team won. I applaud the skills displayed by the Etisalat FC players, it justifies the months of hardwork and dedication they put into their training sessions. As a business, we are proud of them”.

Meanwhile, an overjoyed captain of the squad, Andrew Enebeli, said it was a euphoric feeling to have won the title for the second consecutive year. He noted that the team enjoyed support from the business from the beginning of the tournament. He said the team worked really hard and were grateful to God for the win.

Enebeli also clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament while Etisalat’s Okotie Nelson won best goal keeper. It will be recalled that Etisalat won the 2013 Nigeria Telecommunications Games dethroning MTN Nigeria, winners of the first two editions in 2011 and 2012.
